Context in which the lesson is set After having taught the food types for GCSE and discussion of what they ate for breakfast, lunch and evening meal.
What the lesson is about Drawing up an international menu for a meal in the European Union Building, to include dishes from various countries . Revision of countries.
Expected outcomes A more open minded approach to the food and culture of other countries. An understanding of the vocabulary of food and menu's. Opinion vocabulary - eg, "good for your health", "It is important to try dishes from other countries.
Details of Teacher and Pupil Activities Pupils given a list of dishes from other countries with definitions in French of what they are made of. They match descriptions with homes.

Pupils shown cards giving opinions of food, eg, "Good for your health" "It's important to try new things", etc.

Pupils choose the three opinions they think are most suited to each dish.

Pupils write out a menu for the EU dinner with suggestion as to why dishes should be tried. An example of pupil's work is here.

Extension Work Extend to think about the cultures of other countries.
